Maintaining Fresh Tergazyme Solutions
Q. Directions for Tergazyme say to make “fresh”. What exactly does that mean (daily, weekly, …)? And after making the solution from concentrated powder, how long does it stay good for?
A. All of our detergents are biodegradable, hence, over time they will degrade. In particular, Tergazyme® Enzyme-Active Powdered Detergent is a concentrated, anionic detergent with protease enzymes for manual and ultrasonic cleaning. It is excellent for removal of organic and oily residues due to its powerful emulsifiers. Additionally, the enzymes allow for extremely effective removal of proteinaceous soils, tissue, blood and body fluids from glassware, metals, plastic, and other common lab, hospital and medical device substrates. Most importantly, with no interfering residues.
Powdered Tergazyme detergent is stable for 2 years from the date of manufacture when:
- stored at 15-30 deg C
- stored in a dry place
- box kept closed between use
The powdered nature of the Tergazyme detergent allows the enzymes to be effective over this entire shelf life period without risking the protein enzymes from auto-catalyzing (after all, enzymes are proteins) which may occur in competing liquid concentrate enzymatic detergents.
The ‘fresh’ component comes into play because the half life of the proteolytic enzyme in a diluted solution of Tergazyme cleaner is 8 hours. This is why it is recommended that you use a solution of Tergazyme within 8 hours of diluting it. Ergo, fresh.
