Wine Glass Cleaning using Dishwashers
Q: Does Alconox Inc. have a detergent that can clean my glassware in a dishwasher better than other brands on the market?
A: Yes! Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent can get glassware, and especially wine glasses, clean and residue free.
Fine wines and aromatic craft cocktails require glassware that will not contribute interfering fragrances, change the way the liquid moves or swirls in the glass, or alter the profile of the “legs” (a visual indicator of wine’s alcohol content). The microscopic pores in fine glass should be free of clogging residues which change the rate of aeration and evaporation and therefore can alter the “nose” and flavors of the beverage. Although the most delicate crystal glassware should be cleaned by hand to avoid any possibility of being etched by hot softened water in the dishwasher, other glassware and wine glasses can be washed in a dishwasher using Alcojet powdered detergent.
For best results do not use any rinse aids in the dishwasher. Rinse aids can add unwanted aromas, clog the microscopic pores in the glass, and affect the “legs” of the wine by leaving residues that change the surface tension of the beverage. Unlike most household and commercial detergents, Alcojet powdered detergent does not contain any fragrances, dyes, softeners, brighteners, emollients, or residue-forming rinse aids. In under counter washers, fill the machine’s dispenser cup with Alcojet and run a normal cycle. Load glassware so it is not touching other glassware to avoid trapping dirty wash water between glasses. Load any footed stemware at an angle so the bases drain and do not trap dirty wash water that can contaminate the rinse cycle. Soils left behind in the rinse cycle can lead to water spots.
